Synopsis

Sammy Comes Home- Synopsis

Samuel George II, a little 1946 red pickup, had it made, living with other “kids” on Papa’s Farm. But he felt the fast car crow pulling him. Even after Papa told him he shouldn’t leave, Sammy chose to follow Monty Mercedes out into the fast lane.

His new best friend not only changed his name, but took everything he had. When all he had was taken from him, Sammy was left beside the road, empty and forsaken. When he found himself in the junk yard, he started to believe he was nothing but junk and would never feel shiny and good again.

Then he thought of the workers on Papa’s farm. Papa kept his work cars and trucks clean and full of gas. Somehow, Sammy managed to get some gas and oil, just enough to make the trip home. He would go home and be a worker, if Papa would take him back.

And go he did…. but who was standing in the middle of the road? Papa? Waving his arms and running to him. Welcome home my son…

Excerpt

I was born Samuel George II. My Father, as you might guess, has the same name, but most people just call him Papa George. I don’t look much like my papa, with my polished red coat of paint, two shiny headlights, and four rubber tires, but he loves me all the same. Papa George has lots of “kids” just like me on our farm in Texas. I know he loves Maddie Mustang, who was born in 1966, and he pays special attention to Christian Corvette, Jeremy Jaguar and Austin Audi, but to me, it seems he loves me most. We “kids” loved to play ball out in the fields.

When I was just a little truck, I would follow Papa all over the farm. Together, we would feed the cows, slop the pigs, and gather eggs from the chickens. I remember the spring the triplets, Abigail, Amber and Allison, were born. The whole farm was abuzz with news of the three baby goats. What fun it was when Papa and I passed by and they would try to hop up in my bed. I laughed watching them as they tried to eat everything in sight.

Racing Maddie Mustang over the bluebonnet covered hills, splashing through the creek bed with Christian Corvette, or helping Papa haul vegetables from the garden up to the cottage, kept me busy for the first twelve years of my life. I loved being on the farm. And Papa took such good care of us, making sure we had plenty of gas in our tanks, oil in our motors and air in our tires. He never let our windows stay dirty or allowed our headlights to burn out...
