About Linda Boggs Whitted
Linda Boggs Whitted was born February 6, 1938, in Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia, the youngest of four brothers and one sister of Edwin Curry Boggs and Mary Posey Boggs. The first child, Edwin Ray, lived only two days.
Columbus was a “cotton mill” town. Her Dad referred to his job as a “loom fixer” and her mom was a “weaver.” They spent long, hard hours in cotton mills that had no air conditioning and no breaks except for short periods of time for lunch. They worked different shifts so one or the other would be home with the kids. She was the only child who needed a babysitter when her parents occasionally had an opportunity to work additional shifts.
Spoken often to Linda and her brothers and sister during their childhood by their Dad were the words: “keep on keeping on,” “where there's a will there's a way,” “children are to be seen and not heard,” and last but not least “always use your common sense.”
All of her brothers spent their time together. With the six-year age difference between she and her sister, Linda's childhood was spent mostly alone allowing her to cultivate her own inner resources such as teaching herself how to draw, and eventually adding charcoal and paints to enhance her artistic abilities. She quickly learned that the more she honed her talents and abilities, the bigger her world became.
She attended Waverly Terrace, East Highland and Rose Hill Elementary Schools, Columbus Junior High School and graduated from Jordan Vocational High School on May 29, 1956, the first industrial school in the U.S.
Using her “keep on keeping on” attitude that she seemed to have been born with, Linda found a position within two days of arriving in Jacksonville, Florida with a motion-picture film studio and laboratory, where she remained for several years. During the time there, she was eventually pulled out of the office and placed in commercials and pilot films when the company began bigger productions.
Not being the lifestyle she wanted, she left that position and worked for top management of Blue-Cross-Blue Shield for less than a year, and then turned her attention to the legal field that she found to be fast-paced with many new things to learn. The legal field seemed to be the perfect fit for her “keep on keeping on” attitude and she very quickly adapted to the field.
She continued in the legal field accepting a position with the senior partner of a well-known firm. She remained with this firm for about fourteen years and having a desire to get more involved in litigation, she moved to another top firm to work with one of the managing partners and head of the Litigation Department where she remained for many years.
Linda was invited, and did obtain her real estate license and worked simultaneously for many years as a Realtor with Jerry Lowe, Realtor of Winter Park, Florida and has now also retired from the real estate business.
Two days after retiring from the legal field, she was asked to help a young attorney who was opening his own law firm. She remained with this attorney for approximately two years and again retired.
After joining the Mayor William Beardall Creative Writers Group in October, 2008, it didn't take Linda long to realize that she wanted to try her hand at writing.
